The Mantra for Miracles: Dhan Dhan Ram Das Gur

By Ramdesh Kaur, SpiritVoyage.com

Sometimes there is nothing to do but hope for a miracle. As I watch the story of tragedy unfold in Japan—just as I watched the earthquake in Haiti, the Tsunami in Indonesia, and Hurricane Katrina—once more I feel tears and a familiar stab hits my heart. As I see images from Japan, I remind myself that I cannot really know their grief. And yet, deep in my heart, I can feel it. The stab of loss and pain is there, quietly throbbing, connected.

Yogi Bhajan gave us Sutras, or teachings, for the Aquarian Age. By 11.11.11 we will be so deeply influenced by Aquarian energies that we will no longer feel much of the Piscean Age. Two of Yogi Bhajan's sutras have been running through my mind over and over this week, as I think of the Japanese: "Recognize that the other person is you" and "Understand with compassion or you will misunderstand the times." When I see people on TV full of despair, I know that there is no separation between us. I know that they deserve happiness and peace as much as I do. I pray for their relief and hold the light for them.

In times like these, when there is a tragedy so great your heart aches with the thought of it, there is only one mantra that comes to my mind: the Miracle Mantra, which lives in the realm of the heart and operates on a frequency beyond comprehension. When I need miracles, and I think we all do right now more than ever, I call upon this mantra, "Dhan Dhan Ram Das Gur." It brings in the miraculous powers of Guru Ram Das, Lord of Miracles.

Dhan Dhan Ram Das Gur

Dhan dhan raam daas gur, jin siri-aa tinai savaari-aa

Pooree hoee karaamaat aap sirajanhaarai dhaari-aa

Sikhee atai sangatee paarbrahm kar namasakaari-aa

Atal athaa-o atol too tayraa ant na paaraavaari-aa

Jinee too sayvi-aa bhaa-o kar say tudh paar utaari-aa

Lab lobh kaam krodh mo maar kadhay tudh saparvaari-aa

Dhan so tayraa thaan hai sach tayraa paisakaari-aa

Naanak too lehanaa toohai gur amar too veechaari-aa

Gur dithaa taa man saadhaari-aa

Chanting this mantra makes the impossible become possible. The Japanese could use some more "possible" right now, so it will be something I chant and dedicate to them. There are miracles happening everyday, if we have the good fortune to see them. I share this photo of a man reunited with his dog by a rescuer days after the Tsunami. Miracles happen. If we all chant together, maybe they can happen a little more.
